Chiefs fall in extras on walk-off Sacrifice Fly

Toledo, OH (August 8, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Toledo Mud Hens, 3-2, in ten innings Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field. Omar Infante hit a walk-off sacrifice fly off Rafael Martín, scoring Brendan Ryan from third. Clint Robinson tied the game with a single in the ninth inning to send the game to extras. Jaron Long threw seven strong innings for Syracuse, allowing just five hits.

Syracuse (45-71) started the scoring in the second inning. The Chiefs posted three straight hits with two outs off Josh Turley, from Alejandro De Aza, Pedro Severino and Michael Almanzar, with Almanzar's single bringing home De Aza for a 1-0 lead.
Toledo (54-61) tied the game in the bottom of the third. Matt den Dekker walked to start the inning against Jaron Long. Juan Perez and Ryan then each singled to load the bases. Tyler Collins followed with a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game. 
The Mud Hens took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Efren Navarro doubled with one out, and scored a batter later on Dominic Ficociello's single for a 2-1 lead.
After Almanzar grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the eighth down by one run, Zach Collier started a ninth-inning rally by reaching on an infield single off Jeff Ferrell. Irving Falu then singled and moved to second on the throw to third from Perez in right. The Mud Hens then intentionally walked Neftali Soto, and Robinson stroked a single to right field to score Collier and tie the game. Ferrell would retire the next two batters to strand the bases loaded. 
In the tenth, the Chiefs would again load the bases, this time against Bryan Garcia. After a single and force out, Garcia walked Collier and Falu, but struck out Neftali Soto to again strand three. Syracuse left a season-high 16 runners on base in the game. 
In the bottom of the tenth, Ryan singled with one out, and moved to third on Tyler Collins' single. Infante then lined out to right, and Ryan just beat Brandon Snyder's throw to win the game for the Mud Hens.
The Chiefs will try to split the series Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Jacob Turner is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Anthony Vasquez for Toledo.
