Syracuse, NY (August 17, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Durham Bulls, 6-0, in the series finale at NBT Bank Stadium on Thursday night. Durham scored four runs in the first inning and Ryan Yarbrough held the Chiefs scoreless over six and one third innings. Enny Romero threw a 1-2-3 inning on Major League rehab for the Chiefs.
Durham (75-48) began its big first inning with a Taylor Featherston double and Willy Adames walked. Jake Bauers followed with a line drive to center, plating Featherston for a 1-0 lead and moving Adames to second. Two batters later, Patrick Leonard smacked a single up the middle to score both Adames and Bauers. Shane Peterson then doubled down the left-field line to move Leonard to third. Finally, Leonard scored on a Michael McKenry sacrifice to put Durham up 4-0.
Syracuse (46-78) left runners at the corners in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Neftali Soto singled off Ryan Yarbrough and Brandon Snyder reached on a throwing error, but Matt Skole struck out swinging to retire the side. In the fifth, Michael Almanzar hit a single to right to lead off the inning, and moved over to third on a Zach Collier infield single. Irving Falu struck out swinging to end the frame.
The Bulls notched two additional runs in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Adames blasted a fastball over the left-field fence for his ninth home run of the season. Jake Bauers then hit an infield single. Leonard added another RBI on a double down the left-field line to score Bauer and put Durham up 6-0.
Neal Cotts, Romero, Cody Satterwhite, and Rafael Martín did not allow a run for the Chiefs through a combined four and one third innings of relief work.
The Chiefs return to action Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Indianapolis Indians. John Simms is set to pitch for Syracuse while Steven Brault, the IL leader in ERA, is slated to start for Indianapolis.
