Chiefs mash 14 hits after Giolito no-hitter

Charlotte, NC (May 25, 2017) - After getting no-hit by former teammate Lucas Giolito in game one, the Syracuse Chiefs mashed out 14 hits in game two on the way to a doubleheader split with the Charlotte Knights at BB&T Ballpark Thursday night, taking game two 8-4 after falling 4-0 in game one. Caleb Ramsey and Clint Robinson each homered in game two as the Chiefs scored eight runs between the second and fifth innings. In game one, Giolito threw a seven-inning no-hitter in his first start against the organization that traded him last December. 

Charlotte (23-22) started the game one scoring in the first against Austin Voth. Nicky Delmonico hit his fourth home run in three games, over the right-center field fence to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
Danny Hayes stretched the lead to three in the third. Hayes homered with Delmonico on first and two outs. The two-run shot gave the Knights a 3-0 lead.
Charlotte capped the game one scoring in the sixth. Adam Engel led off the inning against Voth with the Knights third home run of the game, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Giolito walked just three Chiefs and struck out three. The former Chief threw just 65 pitches through the first six innings, and finished with 87 for the game.
In game two, the Knights plated two runs in the first against Gabriel Arias. Jacob May led off the game with a home run to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Delmonico doubled, Hayes singled, and Cody Asche singled home Delmonico to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Syracuse (15-27) finally picked up its first hit of the doubleheader in the second inning of game two when Jhonatan Solano singled off Will Lamb. Grant Green followed with a double and two batters later, Ramsey hit his first home run of the season to give the Chiefs the lead at 3-2.
The home runs continued in the third. Robinson hit a two-run shot off the roof in right field to push the lead to 5-2.
In the fourth, Green singled to start the inning against Jake Dunning. With Green going on a 3-2 pitch, Joey Butler doubled to right center, and Green scored from first to extend the lead to 6-2. After a groundout, Irving Falu singled home Butler for a 7-2 Chiefs lead.
Brandon Snyder and Robinson singled back-to-back to start the fifth. After Snyder moved to third on a double play, Green hit a slow roller to third and beat the throw to first, allowing Snyder to score and make the score 8-2.
The Knights added two in the ninth against Joe Nathan. Jose Vinicio scored from third on a double play groundout, and then Danny Hayes singled home a second run in the inning to cut the deficit to 8-4, but Neal Cotts came in to get Asche to strike out to end the game.
Syracuse continues its road trip Friday night in Lawrenceville, GA against the Gwinnett Braves. A.J. Cole is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Aaron Blair for the Braves. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
