Chiefs Rally Past Bandits Sunday
Peoria, IL - Down by four, the Peoria Chiefs rallied late and held on to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits 8-7 on Sunday afternoon. The first place Chiefs improved to 26-15 in the second half and 65-36 overall with the series finale set for 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

The River Bandits jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first on Chiefs starter

The Chiefs got a run back via the long ball in the bottom of the fourth. Elehuris Montero cut the lead to 5-2 after he crushed a solo shot over the left field wall for his team-leading 15th homer of the season.
A six-run spurt propelled the Chiefs in front in the bottom of the seventh against the Bandits bullpen.
The River Bandits did not go down easy in the top of the ninth against CJ Saylor. Marty Costes was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and Colton Shaver cranked a two-run homer with one out to trim the deficit to 8-7. Saylor exited the game and
Balestrieri took a no-decision throwing 3 2/3 innings as all five of his runs allowed were unearned on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Zach Prendergast (6-2) earned the win pitching 3 1/3 scoreless innings without allowing a hit or walk and he struck out four. Saylor tossed 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs on one hit with no walks and two strikeouts. Blanco picked up his team leading eighth save of the season going 2/3 of a scoreless inning on no hits with one walk and one strikeout.
