The Chiefs pulled ahead in the first inning against Kane County starter Emilio Vargas. With one out Danny Hudzina singled to third to plate Carlson, and Robertson advanced to third when the throw to first was dropped.

Peoria extended their lead against Vargas and the Cougars in the second. Evan Mendoza led off with single to center and scored when Matt Fiedler tripled to the right-center gap, sliding in feet-first ahead of the tag to give Peoria a 2-0 advantage. The triple was Fiedler's second of the season and the Chiefs 31st as a team.
The Chiefs continued the scoring in the third with Vargas still on the mound for Kane County. With one out, Stefan Trosclair blasted a solo home run deep over the left field wall to extend the Chiefs lead to 3-0. The homer traveled 379 feet and was Trosclair's 13th of the season which is the second most on the active roster.
