Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs totaled just six base hits and lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits 4-0 Thursday night. The loss, their eight shutout of the season, drops the Chiefs to last place in the West at 17-28 on the year.
The Bandits got on the board right away in the bottom of the first off Chiefs starter Bryan Dobzanski by scoring a pair of runs. Dobzanski allowed a leadoff single to Stephen Wrenn and walked Carmen Benedetti before getting a groundout. A walk to Yordan Alvarez loaded the bases and a walk to Marcos Almonte gave the Bandits a 1-0 lead. Ronnie Dawson was hit by a pitch to bring home Benedetti before Dobzanski got out of the inning.
Quad Cities added to the lead in the second with a leadoff solo homerun from Osvaldo Duarte, his third of the year, to give the Bandits a 3-0 lead. In the third inning Dawson drew a one-out walk and Chuckie Robinson reached first on a catcher's interference from Ryan McCarvel. After Daz Cameron flew out to left, Duarte drove in Dawson with an RBI single to gave the Bandits a 4-0 lead.
The Chiefs biggest threat came in the top of the ninth inning when Tommy Edman and Andrew Young singled. Andrew Knizner grounded into a fielder's choices as Edman went to third, giving the Chiefs a runner at third for the first time all game. McCarvel and Jackson went down on back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
Dobzanski (0-4) took the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out three and walking four over four innings. Ronnie Williams went three shutout innings of relief allowing four hits while striking out one. Brady Bowen threw a perfect eighth inning with a strikeout.
