Chiefs swept in Wednesday's doubleheader

Pawtucket, RI (June 7, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader Wednesday against the Pawtucket Red Sox, falling 6-1 in game one and 3-0 in game two.

Pawtucket, RI (June 7, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader Wednesday against the Pawtucket Red Sox, falling 6-1 in game one and 3-0 in game two.

Pawtucket (27-27) grabbed the lead in the second inning of game one. Bryce Brentz singled back up the box against Greg Ross and Brian Bogusevic followed with his third home run of the season for a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, Blake Swihart reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Allen Craig's double for a 3-0 PawSox advantage.
Syracuse (17-37) scored its only run of the day in the fifth. Irving Falu broke up Henry Owens' no-hitter with a single to start the inning, and Brandon Snyder doubled with one out to put runners on second and third. Falu would scored on a wild pitch to bring the Chiefs within 3-1.
The PawSox stretched the lead back to three in the bottom of the fifth. Rusney Castillo was hit with a Ross pitch, stole second, and moved to third on a passed ball. After a walk, Steve Selsky brought in Castillo with a single for a 4-1 edge.
Pawtucket added the final two runs in the seventh. Swihart and Craig eached walked against Dustin Antolin. Two batters later, Mike Miller singled and Castillo then doubled to plate the runs and make the score 6-1.
In game two, Edgar Olmos held the Chiefs in check. Olmos, who came in after one inning from Hector Velazquez who was removed to stay available for Boston later this week, threw five no-hit innings in relief, despite not striking out a batter.
Pawtucket struck the scoreboard against Kyle McGowin in the second inning. Bogusevic, Matt Dominguez, and Jantzen Witte all singled to start the inning, and McGowin walked Dan Butler to bring in a run. Heiker Meneses then singled to score Dominguez and push the lead to 2-0. Rusney Castillo followed by hitting into a double play, but Witte scored to make the score 3-0.
Syracuse broke up the no-hitter in game two in the seventh with Snyder's single, but left the bases loaded when Kyle Martin struck out Andrew Stevenson to end the game.
Syracuse continues its seven-game road trip with a four-game series starting Thursday night in Rochester. A.J. Cole is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Aaron Slegers for the Red Wings. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
