Chiefs Take Game Two Against Rattlers Wednesday

Chiefs lock in series win with victory over Wisconsin

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by a final score of 7-5 on Wednesday, ensuring a series win in the three-game set. The Chiefs move to 21-31 overall and will wrap up the series against Wisconsin on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
    Wisconsin got to Chiefs starter Mike O'Reilly in the second inning. Jose Cuas hit a home run to left field to put the Timber Rattlers ahead, 1-0. Ronnie Gideon singled in the next at-bat, but Trever Morrison was out on a bunt to third and Gideon was out at second when he turned towards third and Stefan Trosclair threw behind him for the second out. Trey York flew out to right field to end the inning.  

  Peoria took the lead in the third against Wisconsin reliever Zack Brown. Dylan Carlson doubled to left-center field and moved to third when Nick Plummer grounded out to first on a check-swing ground ball. Carlson scored one hitter later when Jose Martinez singled to left and made it a 1-1 tie. Stefan Trosclair singled to left and with two outs Brian O'Keefe singled to plate Martinez and give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. Ryan McCarvel knocked Trosclair and O'Keefe in to extend the Chiefs lead to 4-1.
    Wisconsin reduced the Chiefs lead in the fourth against O'Reilly. Tucker Neuhaus started the inning with a leadoff double and moved to third on a deep fly out by Cuas. Gideon hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the next at-bat that allowed Neuhaus to score with the Chiefs still at a 4-2 advantage. Morrison and York both singled but O'Reilly struck out Caleb Whalen to end the inning.
    Gideon pulled the Rattlers within a run in the sixth against O'Reilly. The right-hander struck out the first two hitters of the inning, but Gideon hit a solo home run to left field to bring the Timber Rattlers within a run at 4-3.
    Peoria extended their lead in the sixth with one out against Wisconsin reliever Aaron Myers. With one out Plummer walked and Martinez legged out an infield single to give the Chiefs runners at first and second. Andy Young drove in both runners with a double to give the Chiefs a 6-3 lead.
    Frederis Parra replaced O'Reilly on the mound in the seventh for the Chiefs, and gave up a leadoff double to York before hitting Whalen. Joantgel Segovia singled to drive in York and Whalen to narrow Peoria's lead to 6-5. Parra walked Mario Feliciano and got Neuhaus to fly out to left field before being replaced by Eric Carter. Carter struck out Jose Cuas to end the inning and keep the Chiefs on top 6-5.
    Juan Yepez gave the Chiefs a cushion in the eighth inning against Wisconsin reliever Daniel Brown. Yepez hit his second home run of the year to left field, extending the Chiefs lead to 7-5.
    O'Reilly (3-1) went six innings in a win while allowing three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Parra earned a hold while allowing two runs on two hits with a walk in 2/3 of an inning of work. Carter also had a hold over 1 1/3 innings without allow a run or a hit while striking out three. Bowen earned his third save of the season, holding Wisconsin scoreless in the ninth while allowing a hit with one strikeout.
Notes… The Chiefs are 4-4 on Wednesday games… Martinez had his third multi-hit game and first three-hit game of the season… Eight Chiefs had at least one hit in the game… Peoria had five two-out RBI… Yepez hit his second homer of the season and first at Dozer Park this season in the eighth… Yepez's home run was the Chiefs 10th against Wisconsin this season which is the most against any opponent this season… The Chiefs hit 26 home runs in the month of May… The Chiefs finish the month of May with a record of 12-18… O'Reilly's seven strikeouts give him 39 for the season, which is a new single-season high for the righty… Martinez, O'Keefe, and Young all have four-game hit streaks… Trosclair has 12 multi-hit games which is second on the team behind O'Keefe who has 14… The Chiefs wrap up their series against the Timber Rattlers on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch… There will be fireworks sponsored by Baumgarten Distributing… Thursday is also Baumgarten Distributing Beer & Brat Thirsty Thursday, where fans can get $2 12 oz domestic cans and soda plus $3 16 oz craft drafts and margaritas along with $3 brats…College students can get $5 field seats with a valid ID… Thursday Taco Bell Live Mas Thursday, where fans who show a Taco Bell receipt from a purchase within the last seven days will receive a buy one get one FREE ticket (limit of four free tickets per transaction)… Thursday will also be Teacher Appreciation Night and Irish Night at Dozer Park..
