The Peoria Chiefs scored two early runs and allowed just three hits in a 2-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Friday night. The series-opening win puts the Chiefs at 9-5 in the second half and 48-36 overall.

Appleton, WI - The Peoria Chiefs scored two early runs and allowed just three hits in a 2-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Friday night. The series-opening win puts the Chiefs at 9-5 in the second half and 48-36 overall.
     The Chiefs took an early lead against Wisconsin starter Carlos Herrera who returned from a 3-game MWL suspension on Friday. Irving Lopez led off with a double to right and he scored on an error by catcher Payton Henry as Rayder Ascanio laid down a bunt single. Ascanio was caught stealing second and Herrera got out of the inning with the Chiefs up 1-0.
     After Alex Fagalde retired the Rattlers in order in the first inning the Chiefs doubled the lead in the second. Nick Plummer singled and moved to second on a one-out single by Wood Myers. Alexis Wilson walked to load the bases and with two down, Plummer scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Chiefs lead. Lopez walked to reload the bases before Herrera got a deep flyout from Ascanio to end the inning.
    Wisconsin got on the board in the second with a solo home run to left from Payton Henry. Their only other base runner through the first four innings was erased on a 6-4-3 double play in the fourth. Wisconsin got a walk in the fifth but no other base runners against Fagalde through seven innings.
    The Rattlers put the tying run on base in the ninth as Tristen Lutz doubled with two down. But Elehuris Montero made a diving stop at third and threw out Henry at first base to end the game.
     Fagalde (4-2) earned the win as he allowed one run on two hits over seven innings as he struck out five and walked one. Bryan Dobzanski walked one and struck out one in a hitless and scoreless inning. Kodi Whitley earned his third save of the season as he allowed one hit over one shutout inning.
Notes… Peoria is 8-2 against the Rattlers with the first nine games all coming in April…The teams have just six games left this season so the Chiefs cannot lose the season series…Montero has am 11-game hit streak, tying Nick Plummer for the longest on the team this season…Davis has a 9-game hit streak…Fagalde has seven quality starts in his eight starts this season including four in a row…He has gone at least 4 2/3 innings in all nine outings this season and has allowed just three runs in his last 24 innings of work…Lopez started as the DH for just the third time all season…Ascanio is batting .375 (6-for-16) in the four games in which he has been in the 2-spot in the lineup…Plummer batted fifth for the first time all season after Matt Fiedler was a late scratch…Plummer has 11 hits, 11 walks and 11 runs scored in 12 games in the second halfDarren Seferina, who was a MWL Post-Season All-Star at second base for the Chiefs in 2015, is back in the MWL three seasons later and he started at second base for Wisconsin Friday night going 0-for-4…Seferina was released by the Cardinals from Double-A Springfield earlier this season and joined the Rattlers at the All-Star break…The series continues Saturday at 6:05 p.m. as the Chiefs start RH Franyel Casadilla (0-1, 10.13) against Rattlers RH Christian Taugner (4-6, 3.55)…The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 5:50 p.m. on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive and is also available on the Peoria Chiefs Network in the Tune-In Radio App…The game is also available to subscribers on MiLB.TV.
