Elehuris Montero delivers go-ahead homer in ninth to put Chiefs back in first place

Clinton, IA- The Peoria Chiefs scored four answered runs capped off by an Elehuris Montero solo homer in the ninth to top the Clinton LumberKings 4-3 in the series opener on Friday night. The Chiefs are now 31-24 overall and in first place in the Western Division with game two

Clinton, IA- The Peoria Chiefs scored four answered runs capped off by an Elehuris Montero solo homer in the ninth to top the Clinton LumberKings 4-3 in the series opener on Friday night. The Chiefs are now 31-24 overall and in first place in the Western Division with game two of the series set for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
  

  The LumberKings jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning against Chiefs starter Alvaro Seijas. Eugene Helder and Ariel Sandoval both singled with one out to set up a Jack Larsen three-run homer to right field for a 3-0 advantage.
    Peoria got on the board in the top of the second on LumberKings starter Nick Wells. Jose Martinez lined a two-out double and Angel Moreno drove him in on an RBI single through the right side of the infield to put the Chiefs on the board trailing 3-1.
    Another two-out rally tied the game in the top of the third. Julio Rodriguez and JR Davis hit back-to-back two-out singles while Bryce Denton walked to load the bases. Matt Fiedler delivered a game tying two-run single to left scoring Rodriguez and Davis to bring the score even 3-3.
    The Chiefs used the long ball in the top of the ninth against reliever Kyle Wilcox to break the tie. With one out, Elehuris Montero cracked a solo homer to left for a late 4-3 lead.
    Seijas took a no decision throwing 6 2/3 innings allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Blanco (1-0) earned the win throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings on one hit with two walks and one strikeout.
Notes… The Chiefs have been outscored 52-25 in the first inning…Hurst has a seven-game hit streak… Seijas pitched a season high 6 2/3 innings….Seijas retired 16 straight batters when he exited the game…The Chiefs are 6-2 on Friday….
