Peoria extended the lead in the fifth against Gatto. Plummer drew a leadoff walk and moved to second as Martinez beat out a sacrifice bunt attempt for a single. With one down, Davis doubled home Plummer for a 3-1 lead but Gatto retired the next two batters to leave Chiefs at second and third.

Perez (1-0) earned the win as he allowed one unearned run on three hits over five innings. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk.
