HELENA, MT - The Helena Brewers (14-17) left 13 men on base in a 13-1 loss to the Idaho Falls Chukars (14-17) in front of 2,401 fans at Kindrick Legion Field on Friday night.
The Brewers couldn't take advantage of scoring opportunities early in the game. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Helena loaded the bases with three walks. Batting with two outs, Zach Clark struck out, leaving all three men stranded.
Helena managed to get runner on first and second in the second inning, but yet again saw a batter fall victim to a strikeout as Chad McClanahan went down swinging to end the frame.
Idaho Falls extended their lead in the third with a four-run inning. Five of the first six batters in the inning reached base with a hit, including a two-run homer by Darrell Miller, Jr., his second of the season. The Chukars chased Brewers starter Jayson Rose (1-3) after 2.1 innings in which he allowed five runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three.
The Chukars kept the pressure on the Brewers, scoring two runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and at least a run in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning.
The Brewers got on the board with a long ball in the fourth inning. Trailing 7-0, Nicolas Pierre started the frame with a solo home run to left, his first of the season, getting the Brewers on the board. Pierre finished 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored, his eighth straight two-hit game. Dallas Carroll also extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the seventh, and Milwaukee Brewers third-round pick KJ Harrison stretched his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the third inning.
Helena left 13 men on base, including seven in the first three innings and hit into three double plays while Brewers pitching issued 11 walks.
