As the Jupiter Hammerheads celebrated Margaritaville Night at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, newcomer Mark Coley brought the good vibes, leading the Hammerheads to a 10-5 win over the Daytona Tortugas.
In just his 11th professional game, Coley made quite the impact on Saturday night. The University of Rhode Island graduate finished 3-3 with a triple, two home runs, and drove in seven RBIs. The homers, a three-run shot and the other a two-run bomb, were the first of his career.
Coley got the party started with his first homer in the second inning to give Jupiter an early 3-2 lead. In the fourth, it was Coley again with a triple to drive in two more runs. The Connecticut native would score on the next at-bat after a sacrifice fly from Jan Mercado.
Leading 6-3 in the sixth inning, Coley connected for his second long ball to make it an 8-3 contest. Daytona would answer with two runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 8-5 before a Jake DeLeo RBI double. In the eighth inning, Jordan McCants added some insurance with an RBI single to make it a 10-5 contest.
Beyond Coley, Jupiter also got major contributions from Kemp Alderman, Jake DeLeo, and Carlos Santiago, who all finished with multi-hit games. The Hammerheads as a team tallied 12 hits on the night.
On the mound, Juan De La Cruz got the start. The Marlins No. 24 overall prospect pitched four innings, allowing three runs and collecting three strikeouts. The 18-year-old was then replaced by Yeremin Lara, who earned the win after 1.1 innings of shutout baseball.
Following Lara, the Hammerheads turned to Dale Stanavich for 1.2 innings and Anthony Maldonado for the final two frames. Maldonado didn’t allow a hit and faced the minimum while earning two strikeouts.
Off the field, the stadium was full of Parrotheads celebrating Margaritaville Night. The Hammerheads wore specialty FINS UP jerseys, which are available for auction here. There were also giveaways, music, and fun at the stadium.
The Hammerheads and Tortugas will finish their series on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.
