BURLINGTON, IA (August 24, 2017) - The Clinton LumberKings rallied for five runs in the ninth inning to come from behind and beat the Burlington Bees 7-5 at Community Field on Thursday night. Clinton (28-32, 59-68) ran their winning streak to four games with the win, and completed just their second sweep of the season.
Burlington (25-35, 56-73) led throughout the game. Richie Fecteau homered for the second time in the series in the bottom of the first inning giving the Bees a lead they would not relinquish until the ninth inning.
The Bees added to the lead with a run in the second inning but saw the LumberKings come back with two runs in the top of the third.
Jhombeyker Morales singled home two runs to pull Clinton to within one. The single was part of a 3-for 5 night at the plate for Morales who represented all of the Lumberkings offense through the first eight innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Bees reclaimed their three-run lead with a two-run rally. Fecteau and Sam McDonnell drove in the runs for Burlington.
Trailing 5-2, in the top of the ninth inning the LumberKings rallied against Bees reliever Connor Riley. Clinton sent nine men to the plate in the inning with the first three reaching to load the bases. Quevedo drove home the first run of the inning with a one out infield single that kept the bases loaded. Two batters later Gareth Morgan drove a ball to the wall in straight away center field that Brandon Sandoval could not catch and cleared the bases for a three RBI triple. The smash gave the LumberKings their first lead of the night and was followed two pitches later by a Joe Rizzo RBI double to left off Riley (0-1).
Seth Elledge then worked his second inning in the bottom of the ninth and protected the 7-5 lead. Following a leadoff single, Elledge (3-0) set down the next three batters to finish off the LumberKings come from behind win.
The LumberKings will return to Clinton for the final home stand of the season which begins on Friday, August 25. Right-hander Ryne Inman (1-4, 7.53) with take the ball for the LumberKings and face Wisconsin's right-handed pitcher Braden Webb (5-6, 4.58). Clinton will host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for a four-game from August 25 through August 28 before taking Tuesday, the 29th, off and beginning the final home series of the year with the Kane County Cougars August 30th through September 1st. Saturday, August 26 will be the final "Stay Late Saturday" of the season, with Cal Stage Band performing a special post-game concert.
