Aberdeen, Md. (May 12, 2024) — On Sunday afternoon the Hudson Valley Renegades snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Aberdeen IronBirds, after a go-ahead RBI double in the ninth inning from Jared Serna.

Enrique Bradfield led off the bottom of the first with a single for the IronBirds, and then stole second. A wild pitch advanced Bradfield to third, and he scored on a balk by Ben Shields later in the inning.

The IronBirds extended their lead in the fourth, after a leadoff triple by Max Wagner. An RBI single from Matthew Etzel drove home Wagner. Etzel stole second and third, and came home on a single by Jalen Vasquez to make it 3-0.

In his first career start, Shields struck out a career-high eight batters across 3.2 innings.

In the top of the sixth Jace Avina led off with a walk and reached second on a single by Jesus Rodriguez, and got to third on a fielder’s choice groundout. Rafael Flores knocked in Avina with an RBI single to get the Renegades on the board.

Flores has four hits and three RBIs in the last two games since returning from the Injured List.

In the seventh, Kyle Battle and Roc Riggio drew back-to-back walks to start the frame, and Serna was then hit by a pitch. A throwing error by Max Wagner brought home Kyle Battle and advanced Serna to third. An RBI groundout by Rodriguez scored Serna to tie the game at 3-3.

In the top of the ninth Battle again led off with a walk. He then stole second and with one out, Serna launched a double off the centerfield wall to bring him home and give the Renegades a 4-3 advantage. Serna finished 3-for-4 on Sunday, and now has a team-leading 23 RBIs in the season.

As the Renegades came back, they got an outstanding performance from their bullpen. Trent Sellers, Joel Valdez, and Mason Vinyard combined for 5.1 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed. Vineyard (1-0) got the win tossing the final 2.0 innings for Hudson Valley.

Hudson Valley will return home to face the Jersey Shore BlueClaws for a six game series at Heritage Financial Park beginning on Tuesday night. The series opener on Tuesday will begin at 6:05 p.m., with the Heritage Financial Credit Union Pregame Show beginning at 5:45 on the Renegades Baseball Network.
