Cooper Named PCL Player of the Week
The Sky Sox and the Pacific Coast League have announced that Sky Sox infielder Garrett Cooper has been named the PCL Player of the Week for the period from July 3-9.

In seven games last week, Cooper hit .500 (12-for-24) with two home runs, six doubles, 10 runs score, 11RBI and six walks while leading the Sky Sox to a 5-3 record against Omaha, Nashville and Round Rock. The PCL Player of the Week award is the first of Cooper's Career. He's also the first Sky Sox player to be named PCL Player of the Week since Shane Peterson won the award for the period from May 23-29, 2016.
Cooper, 26, is enjoying a breakout year in his first full season at the Triple-A level hitting .366 (102-for-279) with 17 home runs, 29 doubles, 64 runs and 82 RBI in 75 games. At the All-Star Break, the Sky Sox first baseman leads the Pacific Coast League and ranks second among all Minor League Baseball players in batting average. He leads the Sky Sox and ranks among the PC leaders in doubles (1st), RBI (2nd), on-base percentage (2nd, .428), slugging percentage (2nd, .652), extra-base hits (T-2nd, 46), runs (3rd) and total bases (4th, 82).
He's been instrumental in leading the Sky Sox to a 55-34 record and a six game lead in the Pacific Coast League American North Division standings at the All-Star Break. The 55-34 record is tied for the second best record among all Triple-A teams.
Cooper was elected to the 2017 Triple-A All-Star team as the Pacific Coast League's starting first baseman. The All-Star Game selection is the 2nd of Cooper's career. He was previously elected to the Southern League All-Star Team in 2016 as a member of the Biloxi Shuckers. The 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game will be held at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, WA, home of the Tacoma Rainiers, on Wednesday, July 12 starting at 7:00 PM MDT. The game will be broadcast live on MLB Network.
