The Mother's Day loss gives Hagerstown an 11-25 overall record, with the two teams playing the third of four games on Monday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
Charleston scored in the first with a homer by Dom Thompson-Williams to make it 1-0 against Jackson Tetreault, but the Suns responded in a big way in the bottom of the second. With two on and one out, Jake Scudder doubled to right field, scoring Nick Banks and Branden Boggetto to make it a 2-1 Suns lead. Armond Upshaw laced a two-out singled to right, scoring Scudder to add to the lead. Later in the inning, Aldrem Corredor singled to left with the bases loaded, plating Upshaw and Cole Freeman to give the Suns a 5-1 advantage.
Charleston scored seven runs in the third inning, chasing Tetreault from the game while Andrew Lee made his first appearance of the season for Hagerstown in relief. Oswaldo Cabrera hit a two-run homer against Tetreault to make it a 5-3 Suns lead, but Tetreault loaded the bases and was lifted from the game. On the first pitch Lee threw, he got a ground ball back to the mound, but overthrew first base while allowing three runs to score with the Suns falling behind, 6-3. Wilkerman Garcia singled to right to score Eduardo Navas and Thompson-Williams doubled to center, scoring an additional two runs to pad the RiverDogs lead, 8-5.
Thompson-Williams homered again in the fifth inning to cap off a four-run frame and put the RiverDogs in front 12-5, but the Suns chipped away at the lead. In the sixth RiverDogs reliever Greg Weissert walked the bases loaded and Freeman drove in Boggetto with a sacrifice fly to make it 12-6. Banks hit a solo homer in the seventh to cut the score to 12-7, and the Suns scored two more in the eighth with Corredor driving in Freeman with a singled to center and Franco singled to left, scoring Luis Garcia to make it a 12-9 game. Hagerstown was unable to overcome the three-run deficit in the ninth, losing their 25th game of the season.
Tetreault (0-4) took the loss, going 2.2 innings with six runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Lee worked two innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits with four walks. Sam Held threw 3.1 scoreless innings of no-hit baseball with a strikeout. Kyle Johnston pitched the ninth, allowing two hits in the inning.
