Cron, Menez selected best of the week
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Reno Aces infielder Kevin Cron and Sacramento River Cats left-hander Conner Menez have been named the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 28-June 3, 2018, the League office announced Monday.
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Reno Aces infielder
Cron led all professional baseball (Minor and Major League players) with 14 RBI and eight extra-base hits. In six games, he also totaled the most bases (26) in the PCL, while matching the League-high in home runs (4). Cron hit .357 (10-for-28) with a 1.286 OPS (.357 on-base percentage, .929 slugging percentage) and scored five runs.
The Diamondbacks farmhand was the catalyst for an Aces offense in a May 28 win against Salt Lake; he finished a triple shy of the cycle, going three-for-five with three RBI and two runs scored. Two days later, he mashed a two-run homer in a win over Las Vegas, part of a two-hit game. His best run-producing game of the week - and for his career - came on May 31. Cron drove in six, hitting a pair of doubles and a home run in the Aces 20-3 win. The 25-year-old capped his week and assisted to another Reno win by recording a two-run home run on June 3.

The Placentia, California native spent all last year with Double-A Jackson, where he recorded 25 home runs, 91 RBI and a .854 OPS en route to being named the MVP of the Southern League. Cron entered the season ranked as the No. 22 prospect in the Diamondbacks system, according to Baseball America. He was selected by Arizona in the 14th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Christian University. Cron has batted .262 (510-for-1945) and hit 99 home runs in his five-year career. This is his first career Player of the Week award.

In only his second career Triple-A start, and two days after his 23rd birthday, Menez tossed seven shutout innings on May 31 at El Paso. He surrendered only one hit, one walk, struck out eight and faced just two batters over the minimum, throwing 64 of his 99 pitches for strikes. The lone hit he allowed was a one out single in the fifth inning; he retired the next eight batters to finish off his outing.
Aside from this week's start for Sacramento and another on April 12, Menez has spent the season with the Single-A San Jose Giants. He has made nine starts for the Giants, posting a 3.83 ERA (44.2 IP, 19 ER) with 67 strikeouts to just 16 walks. This is his third year in San Francisco's system after getting selected by the Giants in the 14th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of The Master's College (CA). The southpaw is 14-12 with a 4.19 ERA (223.1 IP, 104 ER) in 49 career appearances (41 starts). This is his first career Pitcher of the Week award.
