The Rocket City Trash Pandas are proud to announce that following a brilliant month of June on the mound, starting pitcher Coleman Crow has been named Southern League Pitcher of the Month.
The award is the fourth of the season for Crow, who was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week three times in six weeks, first on May 22, then again on June 12 and most recently on June 26.
“It’s a huge honor,” Crow said. “It was great to be consistent and put the team in a good position to win each time while trying to go as deep into games as I can.”
Crow’s acclaim gives the Trash Pandas their third Southern League monthly award of the season after Chase Silseth was named Pitcher of the Month and Trey Cabbage was named Player of the Month in April.
Over four starts in June, Crow went 3-0 with a 1.33 in four starts, limiting opponents to four earned runs over 27 innings pitched. He recorded 24 strikeouts while issuing only four walks and holding opposing hitters to a .177 average as the Trash Pandas clinched a playoff spot. For the month of June, Crow led the Southern League in WHIP (0.78) and tied for the lead in opponents’ batting average (.177) while ranking among the league leaders in wins (T-2nd, 3), ERA (2nd, 1.33), and innings pitched (T-5th, 27.0).
Crow began the month with a strong start in Chattanooga, earning the win on June 4 at AT&T Field after giving up one run on five hits with six strikeouts in a 4-1 win to open a doubleheader. He followed that by shutting down Mississippi for seven scoreless innings on June 11, striking out seven and allowing three hits with no walks to earn his second straight win. In his third start of the month, Crow allowed four runs, three earned, over six innings against Montgomery on June 18, the only outing he did not win. Crow ended his month with his best outing as a pro, firing a career-high eight scoreless innings at Birmingham on June 25, allowing two hits with four walks and five strikeouts to beat the Barons.
“The Birmingham outing was pretty special because I went eight innings, I had never gone eight before,” he added. “That was my favorite outing.”
For the season, Crow is 6-2 with a 3.34 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 72.2 innings spanning 13 starts. He currently ranks among the Southern League leaders in wins (T-1st, 6), WHIP (3rd, 1.09), batting average against (3rd, .221), ERA (5th, 3.34), innings pitched (4th, 72.2), and strikeouts (11th, 70).
Crow began his professional career last season with Low-A Inland Empire and was 4-3 with a 4.19 ERA in 13 games (10 starts) for the 66ers. He made his Double-A debut for Rocket City in the home opener at Toyota Field on April 12, 2022.
The Los Angeles Angels’ 28th round selection in the 2019 draft, Crow was selected by the Angels out of Pike County High School in Zebulon, Georgia. He originally committed to Kennesaw State but chose to sign with the Angels and begin his professional career. MLB.com currently ranks Crow as the number 20 prospect in the Angels organization.
Crow’s next start for the first-half North Division Trash Pandas is scheduled for Friday night, July 8 at Toyota Field against Chattanooga. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Josh Caray will be on the call for 103.9 FM THE UMP and 730 AM SportsRadio. The game will also be televised locally on WAAY 31.6, This TV.
