Cubs take series finale against Dayton 2-0
South Bend, IN: Behind two RBI from Midwest League All-Star Jared Young, and another dominant pitching performance from right hander Erich Uelmen, the South Bend Cubs blanked the Dayton Dragons 2-0 on Thursday night at Four Winds Field.

After dropping the first two games of the series, the Cubs responded well in game three by salvaging the final game of the homestand. Like the prior two games of the series, Thursday was low scoring and one highlight reel play was the difference. Tonight, it was the Cubs turn to get the last laugh.
With the only runs of the game being scored in the 5th inning, the Cubs finally got to 18-year-old Dayton starter
In 6.2 scoreless innings, Uelmen struck out five batters after setting a career high in strikeouts last week at West Michigan. The right hander out of Las Vegas has now come all the way back to get his record back to .500. Uelmen is now 5-5 on the year with a 3.51 ERA.

With the win, the Cubs improve to 34-32 as the first half is coming to a close. Tonight was the final home game of the first half. Now, South Bend will leave on a three game road trip to face the Lansing Lugnuts in Michigan this weekend.
The three games against Lansing will close the first half and then the Midwest League will take its three-day All-Star break. After the break is finished, the Cubs will open the second half on the road in Dayton to take on the Dragons.
