WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (71-67) were blanked 3-0 by the El Paso Chihuahuas (80-58) despite an excellent outing from San Francisco Giants' right-hander Johnny Cueto in front of a sellout crowd at Raley Field.
Right-hander Cueto looked ace-like Saturday night in his second rehab start at Triple-A, working his way back from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander tossed six scoreless innings, giving up just four hits while striking out six El Paso batters. Cueto is expected to return to the Giants' rotation next week.
Offensively the River Cats were held in check, mustering just five hits with none going for extra base hits. Outfielder Jaylin Davis did lead off the ninth inning with a single, providing hope for a comeback, but the next three River Cats were unable to keep it going.
Returning from Double-A Richmond, right-hander Carlos Navas (0-5, 5.58) will get the start for game three of four. El Paso will turn to left-hander Dietrich Enns (11-10, 6.62). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on Money 105.5 FM.
Additional Notes

  • The River Cats were shutout for the seventh time this season on Saturday. Five of those seven shutout losses have come at Raley Field.
  • With just two games to go, the River Cats first round opponent is still up in the air. With El Paso winning and Las Vegas losing to Tacoma, the Aviators hold a one game lead in the Pacific Southern Division with two games remaining.
