Cyclones Score Four in Eighth, Top Claws 7-3 on Sunday

BROOKLYN, NY - Brooklyn scored four times in the bottom of the eighth to blow open a 3-3 game and top the BlueClaws 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Maimonides Park in the finale of a six game series.

The BlueClaws (2-1/40-29) took four of six in the series from the Cyclones (1-2, 34-35) and start the second half 2-1.

Chris Suero walked to start the eighth inning and scored on a base hit by Nick Lorusso when a throw to second squirted into right field allowing Suero to score. Lorusso ended up at second and scored on a base hit by Wilfredo Lara to put the Cyclones up 5-3. They added a run on an RBI triple from William Lugo and another on RBI single by Meteo Gil.

Gunner Mayer (1-2) was charged with all four runs in the eighth and took the loss. Josh Hejka (1-2) gave up the tying runs, but threw a scoreless ninth and earned his first win of the season.

Jersey Shore came from 3-1 down to tie the game in the eighth. Ryan Leitch, with two outs, doubled in two runs to level the game at three apiece. This came one inning after Leandro Pineda kept it a 3-1 game by throwing out a runner at the plate on a base hit to right field.

Brooklyn got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by Nick Lorusso off BlueClaws starter Braeden Fausnaught.

The Cyclones tacked on to their lead in the fourth. Wilfredo Lara tripled in Stanley Consuegra, while Jefrey De Los Santos then singled in Lara to put Brooklyn up 3-0.

Fausnaught came out after five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, with two walks and six strikeouts. The BlueClaws finally got on the board in the seventh on an RBI double by Aidan Miller.

Miller had two hits for Jersey Shore while Justin Crawford had a double and a triple.

The BlueClaws are off on Monday and open a series on Tuesday night with first-half champion Greensboro (Pirates). RHP Mitch Neunborn starts the series opener for Jersey Shore.
