Two summers ago, Jordan Lawlar was drafted sixth overall by the D-backs as a promising 18-year-old shortstop from Texas.

Now he's only one call away from The Show.

MLB Pipeline’s No. 10 ranked prospect has been promoted to the Triple-A Reno Aces, a source told MLB.com's Steve Gilbert on Sunday. The team has not confirmed the news.

Lawlar's first taste of Minor League action in 2021 was quickly cut short due to a labrum tear in his left shoulder during his second game, but he rebounded flawlessly the following season.

In 2022, the D-backs’ No. 1 ranked prospect slashed .351/.447/.603 with 22 extra-base hits in 44 games at Single-A Visalia. The right-handed slugger also made stops in High-A Hillsboro, Double-A Amarillo and the Arizona Fall League before being sidelined in the autumn by a fractured left scapula.

Lawlar carried that momentum over into this season. The multifaceted infielder played in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game and hit .263/.366/.474 with 15 homers, 77 runs, 48 RBIs and 33 stolen bases in 89 games for the Sod Poodles. He departs the Texas League tied for second in runs and tied for fourth in doubles (23).

The 21-year-old is still working on his defense, but his bat and speed combination make him a tantalizing prospect. The next level will certainly be a test, but if his performance in the Minors thus far is any indication, it is one Lawlar is equipped to handle.
