LHP Dallas Keuchel Added to the Round Rock Roster

ROUND ROCK, Texas – LHP Dallas Keuchel signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers and was assigned to the Round Rock Express on July 27. Keuchel won the American League Cy Young award in 2015 while pitching for the Houston Astros. He has appeared in two MLB All-Star games and won the 2017 World Series with Houston.
Keuchel is slated to make his first start as a member of the Express on Tuesday, August 2 against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston Astros affiliate) at Constellation Field. He will face his former teammate, Houston Astros RHP Lance McCullers Jr. (3-6, 6.85), who is on a Major League rehab assignment and will start for Sugar Land.
Keuchel, 34, made eight starts with the Chicago White Sox this season before he was designated for assignment on May 28. He was given his unconditional release on May 31. The lefty signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 6 and made two starts at the team’s Arizona Complex League affiliates before his contract was selected on June 26.
He made four starts with Arizona before he was designated for assignment on July 20 and given his unconditional release on July 22. Keuchel’s best start came on July 7 when he tossed 7.0 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts against the Colorado Rockies.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma native and Arkansas Razorback is an 11-year MLB veteran and has a 3.92 ERA (688 ER/1578.0 IP) in 266 games and 255 starts for his career. In his Cy Young award-winning season, Keuchel led the American League with 20 wins and 232.0 innings. He collected two shutouts and three complete games while posting a 2.48 ERA (64 ER/232.0 IP).
Keuchel appeared in the Pacific Coast League from 2011-2013 with the Oklahoma City RedHawks. He never made an appearance at Dell Diamond but faced the Express twice in 2012 and held a 0.96 ERA (1 ER/9.1 IP) in two starts.
Round Rock gets set for the series opener of the six-game series with the Space Cowboys on Tuesday and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. The Express have won four consecutive games and finished July with a 15-9 record.
