BOWLING GREEN- The Asheville Tourists saw their four-game winning streak come to an end and their six-game road losing streak jump to seven with a competitive 4-2 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Asheville was forced to play from behind the entire game; however, they hung close all the way to the end.
Bowling Green’s Ronny Simon hit a leadoff Home Run in the first inning. The Hot Rods added two more solo Home Runs and an RBI single. Asheville’s lone run off the Hot Rods starting pitcher came in the form of a 400-foot Zach Daniels solo blast in the fourth.
Entering the bottom of the sixth down 4-1, the Tourists went to Chayce McDermott out of the bullpen. Chayce pitched the next three innings without allowing a run or a hit. McDermott struck out nine and is now third in the league with 106 strikeouts.
In the top of the seventh, Daniels led off the inning with a double into right. Kenedy Corona promptly followed with an RBI single to plate Daniels. Unfortunately, Corona was then picked off first. The Tourists did not have another base-runner until Daniels hit a two-out single in the ninth.
Christian Mejias made his first start of the season and pitched four innings. Bowling Green’s Ben Brecht struck out nine in his five innings on the mound.
