Daytona rallies, rolls Florida in extras, 6-4

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After suffering a gut-wrenching loss on Saturday, Daytona returned the favor on Sunday afternoon. The Tortugas scored one in the eighth and ninth to tie and two more in the 11th, as the Tortugas bested the Florida Fire Frogs, 6-4, in 11 innings at Osceola County Stadium.

Trailing 4-2 going to the eighth, SS José García (1-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, SO) clocked a one-out double off the left-field fence. DH Pabel Manzanero (1-4, RBI, SO) followed with a run-scoring single to left to pull Daytona (19-20, 54-50) within a run, 4-3.
In the ninth, the Tortugas wasted no time in tying the game. On the first pitch of the frame, RF Lorenzo Cedrola (1-3, 2 R, 3B, BB) uncorked a triple down the left-field line. 1B Bruce Yari (1-5, RBI, 3 SO) then immediately knotted the contest at four with a sacrifice fly to center.
After neither team dented the scoreboard in the 10th, Daytona began a rally in the 11th, as Cedrola walked and both he and the tiebreaking runner - LF Drew Mount (2-5, 2 R) - moved to second and third on a wild pitch. 
Following an intentional walk to CF Andy Sugilio (3-5, R, 3B, RBI, BB, SO) to load the bases with one out, García lifted a sacrifice fly to center to put the Tortugas ahead, 5-4. PR-DH Michael Beltré (1-1, 2B, RBI, BB) proceeded to add to the advantage with a run-scoring double to right, making it a 6-4 contest.
RHP John Ghyzel (2.0 IP, 2 BB, SO) - who tossed a scoreless 10th inning - stayed on in the 11th and finished off the win. The 23-year-old stranded the tying runs aboard, as RF Andrew Moritz (2-6, RBI) grounded to short to end the contest.
For the second-straight affair, the Tortugas struck first. In the top of the opening inning, Sugilio ripped a one-out triple off the right-field fence. García followed with his first of two sac flies to put Daytona in front, 1-0.
Florida (14-25, 39-66) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second on a two-RBI single from C Logan Brown (1-5, 2 RBI, 2 SO) before the 'Tugas struck back. In the top of the third, Daytona evened the tide at two, as Sugilio collected a run-producing base-hit to left.
The Fire Frogs regained the advantage, 4-2, in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a solo home run to right by 2B Brett Langhorne (1-5, R, HR, RBI, 3 SO) and an RBI single from Mortiz.
Neither starter received a decision on Sunday. Daytona's RHP Austin Orewiler (4.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 3 SO) was chased after four frames. RHP Freddy Tarnok (7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 SO) hurled a quality start for Florida.
Ghyzel (2.0 IP, 2 BB, SO) worked two hitless innings in extras to collect his fifth win in relief. Fire Frogs RHP Walter Borkovich (1.0 IP, H, 2 R, ER, 3 BB, SO) issued both tallies in the 11th and suffered his fourth loss.
Following Monday's off day, Daytona will trek down to Jupiter to close out their 13-game road trip with a three-contest series against the Hammerheads, the High-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Cincinnati's No. 23 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com - RHP Jared Solomon (0-4, 4.29 ERA) - is expected to get the ball in the lid-lifter on Tuesday. Jupiter has not announced a starter for that contest yet.
The Tortugas Pre-Game Show will kick off the broadcast at 6:15 p.m. ET, leading up to the 6:30 p.m. ET start at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Tuesday evening's contest can be heard on www.daytonatortugas.com or via the TuneIn Radio and MiLB First Pitch apps.
Following the lengthy road trip, the Tortugas will return to The Jack to open up a three-contest set against the St. Lucie Mets, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, on Friday, August 2. Daytona continues its Best Dressed Friday series, as players and coaches will don special uniforms in honor of the 25th anniversary of comedy classic, "Dumb and Dumber". Those jerseys will be auctioned off online throughout the weekend. It will be another Friday Night Happy Hour presented by Kona Brewing with buy-one, get-one Kona beer products and Bud Light from 5:30 p.m. until first pitch. Finally, after the game, fans will be treated to another splendid Postgame Fireworks display.
