De Leon spins five hitless innings in 6-1 Stone Crabs win

DUNEDIN, Fla. (May 16, 2017) - Jose De Leon spun five hitless innings to lead the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 6-1 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays Tuesday at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.
The Stone Crabs' (19-19) righty struck out five while walking two over five shutout innings.
Meanwhile, Charlotte got the offense going early against Dunedin (21-18) starter Angel Perdomo (3-3). Center fielder Jake Fraley led off the top of the first with a triple down the right field line. After a walk, Jake Cronenworth drove in Fraley with a fielder's choice to make it 1-0.
Still leading by one in the top of the fifth, Manny Sanchez and Brandon Lowe each reached on infield singles. With two outs, Cronenworth pulled a single into right to score Sanchez and make it 2-0 Stone Crabs.
With the Crabs up four in the top of the seventh, Lowe and Cronenworth both drew two-out walks before Sullivan grounded a single to center to make it 5-0.
After Dunedin got a run back in the bottom of the inning, David Rodriguez pulled a double down the left field line to start the top of the eighth. Rodriguez advanced to third on a flyout before coming home to score on a groundout by Jim Haley .
Stone Crabs reliever Taylor Hawkins worked four innings of relief, allowing one run while striking out two to earn his second save of the year.
The Stone Crabs and Blue Jays will meet again Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Eduar Lopez (3-3, 3.38) makes the start for Charlotte against T.J. Zeuch (2-1, 2.57) of Dunedin. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
