The Salt Lake Bees blanked the Las Vegas Aviators 6-0 in front of a sold-out crowd of 11,131 at Smith’s Ballpark on Saturday Night.
Angels top pitching prospect Reid Detmers impressed in his Triple-A debut. Detmers pitched six innings, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out nine. Jose Quijada followed up with two scoreless innings and Felix Pena finished the game in the ninth to preserve the shutout. The Bees have now blanked the Aviators three times this season.
Gavin Cecchini highlighted the Bees offense by collecting a hit in nine straight at-bats. Cecchini collected two hits in his last two at bats on Tuesday, finished five-for-five during Friday’s completed game and then singled twice to begin Saturday. Cecchini walked in his final two plate appearances of the night to push his streak to 11 straight plate appearances safely. Both the nine straight hits and 11 straight plate appearances reaching safely have tied the Salt Lake franchise records. Taylor Ward finished with three hits including a pair of doubles and Michael Stefanic increased his hitting streak to 14 straight games, the longest streak of the season for the Bees.
The Bees and Aviators will match up again on Sunday afternoon. The matinee start begins at 1:05 p.m. at Smith’s Ballpark.
