Devers ends no-hit bid, 'Dogs fall 2-1 in Reading

Reading, PA - Andrew Pullin snapped a 1-1 tie with an RBI single off Ty Buttrey (1-1) in the eighth inning, giving the Reading Fightin Phils (19-13) a 2-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (17-14) on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Reading's Drew Anderson (ND) had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning, but Rafael Devers ended the no-hit bid and the shutout, blasting a solo-homer (#7) to left-center field. 
Kevin McAvoy (ND) was outstanding for Portland, lowering his ERA to 0.90 in. McAvoy yielded a homer to Scott Kingery, the first batter he faced, but finished the afternoon, allowing only on run on seven hits over 7 IP. In the sixth with the Sea Dogs trailing 1-0, McAvoy worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam.
Jessen Therrien (1-1) worked two scoreless frames on one hit and three strikeouts to earn the win for Reading. Buttrey suffered the loss, giving up two hits and one run over 2/3 of an inning.
Portland had two hits - the homer by Devers and a single from Danny Mars in the ninth.
The Sea Dogs dropped two of three in the series, but have a 7-6 lead in the season series over the Fightin Phils.
Portland is off Monday and opens up a four-game series in three days with the Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate), playing a doubleheader on Tuesday night beginning at 5 PM. Tickets are available at seadogs.com or 207-879-9500.
