ROME- The Asheville Tourists dropped a one-run game to the Rome Braves on Wednesday night by a final score of 2-1. Asheville’s trio of pitchers; Nolan DeVos, Max Roberts, and Franny Cobos kept the Tourists in the ballgame. Offensively, the struggle continued with only two hits and a total of three baserunners all game.
The Braves retired the first 19 Tourists hitters thanks to quality pitching and excellent defense. Tommy Sacco Jr. worked a walk in the seventh to break up the Braves bid at a perfect game. John Garcia hit a leadoff double in the eighth to end the thoughts of a no-hitter. Kobe Kato promptly followed with a single. Garcia scored the Tourists lone run on a wild pitch.
DeVos allowed a run in the bottom of the first inning but that was the only damage the right-hander gave up. Nolan retired 12 of the last 14 batters he faced. Roberts pitched 1.2 scoreless innings and Cobos held the Braves to one run in his two frames of work.
Asheville has managed a total of two runs, four hits, and three walks over the first 18 innings of this series. The Tourists have now dropped 11 of their last 13 games but will attempt to finish strong in their final four contests.
