Dimas Ojeda wins Dan Wilson Award

CLINTON, IA (August 29, 2017) - Clinton LumberKings outfielder Dimas Ojeda has been announced as the Dan Wilson Community Service Award winner for 2017 season. The Dan Wilson Award is awarded to just one player in the Mariners farm system for a player's commitment to the community in which they play in.
Ojeda, 21, has been with the LumberKings since Opening Day and is in his second professional season. Drafted by the Mariners in the 17^th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Ojeda has been a fixture in and around Clinton during LumberKings community outings.
LumberKings manager Tony Arnerich informed Ojeda of being named the Dan Wilson award winner in a team meeting before the LumberKings Friday night game with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
 "I think this honor is awesome," said Ojeda of the award. "I never would have expected it. It's a great feeling to be recognized for something like this."
"I'm very proud of {Ojeda}. He's out there in the community helping people out," said Arnerich.
Even though Arnerich has only managed the LumberKings since August 10^th, he was able to meet and know Ojeda as the Mariners Catching Coordinator for the minor leagues.
"I have gotten to know him pretty well as a coordinator. Which really says something because I would only be here for four or five days and in that time you begin to established a relationship," said Arnerich.
Ojeda is well respected in the club house as a bilingual player who gets along with Latin American, US and Canadian players.
"He's a special kid," said Arnerich. "You can just see how the players in the club house gravitate towards him."
The Fort Worth, Texas native will now begin making plans for a trip in late September to Seattle where the Mariners will honor him the presentation of the Dan Wilson Award. "I won this award because of what my parents taught me growing up. I could not have done it without them," said Ojeda of the trip to Seattle.
The LumberKings will now open their final home series of the season with the first of three games against the Kane County Cougars on Wednesday night. Clinton left-hander Nick Wells (5-9, 6.41) will take the ball for the LumberKings and face Kane County's left-handed pitcher Mack Lemieux (7-5, 4.70). Game time is slated for 6:30 PM with the pregame show on 100.3 FM WCCI beginning at 6:15 PM, Erik Oas will be on the call. Wednesday will be the final "Wing Wednesday" of the season with 50 cent wings all game long.
