Portland rallied back in game one to win 2-1 but lost the nightcap 2-0. Portland trails the Reading Fightin Phils by 4.5 games for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division.
Game 1 Recap
Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the seventh, the 'Dogs scored two runs off Scott Griggs (L, 1-3) for the come-from-behind win. Charlie Madden singled with one out and scored on the double by Jerry Downs (2-for-3, RBI, 2 2B). Jeremy Rivera followed with a single to put runners on the corners, and Dylan Hardy executed a perfect safety-squeeze to knock in the game-winning run.
RHP Konner Wade (W, 4-4) tossed 6.1 innings on five hits, one run, one walk, and three strikeouts to earn the win. Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the sixth on a run-scoring double from Tyler Nevin.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Dedgar Jimenez fanned the final two batters with Bret Boswell at first base to secure his sixth save of the season.
Game 2 Recap
Hartford scored two unearned runs and stole five bases to win the nightcap. In the first inning, the Goats executed a double steal, but catcher Austin Rei committed a throwing error, enabling Manny Melendez to score. In the sixth inning with two outs, Vance Vizcaino (three stolen bases) stole home for the second run. Vizcaino broke to the plate after Rei threw the ball back to Eduard Bazardo.
Goats righty Tate Scioneaux (W, 3-2) worked three hitless innings on one walk and four strikeouts to earn the win. Jordan Foley pitched a perfect seventh for his second save of the year.
Kutter Crawford (L, 1-3) took the loss for the Sea Dogs, allowing one unearned run over 2+ innings. Matthew Gorst fired three hitless innings and fanned two. Portland had just two hits, a double from Luke Tendler and a single from Nick Lovullo.
The Sea Dogs and Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate) meet for the final time on Thursday night with a 7:05 PM start at Dunkin' Donuts Park. RHP Denyi Reyes (7-9, 3.74) takes on Hartford lefty Jack Wynkoop (7-13,3.64). Radio coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:50 PM.
