The Reading Fightin Phils beat the Hartford Yard Goats 3-1 on a beautiful Saturday night. Dominant pitching and clutch hitting gave Reading a big win.
Hartford scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Kyle Datres singled in Hunter Stovall who doubled to get on base. That ended up being it for the Yard Goats who were kept off the board for the rest of the game.
In the seventh, Aldrem Corredor knocked a two-out single to beat the shift. He moved over on a wild pitch and scored on Herbert Iser’s double. Reading and Hartford were tied at one.
Wendell Rijo led off the ninth with a walk. Jhailyn Ortiz singled to reach. They both moved over on Ethan Wilson’s sacrifice bunt. Corredor drove them in on a two-RBI single. The Fightins took a 3-1 lead.
Andrew Painter threw seven innings of one run ball. He allowed eight hits and no free passes. The #1 prospect struck out nine, for 141 K’s on the season to lead the farm system.
Matt Seelinger tossed a clean inning of relief and took the win.
Billy Sullivan notched the save, striking out three batters in the ninth to slam the door shut.
