PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (July 31, 2017) - Lucius Fox and Brett Sullivan both delivered walk-off hits Monday as the Charlotte Stone Crabs took a pair of extra-inning games from the St. Lucie Mets at Charlotte Sports Park.
Sullivan delivered both the game-tying and game-winning hits for Charlotte (51-54, 20-17) in Game 1.
With the Stone Crabs trailing St. Lucie (48-58, 15-23) 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Peter Maris reached on a fielding error to start the inning. With two outs, Sullivan clubbed a two-run home run to right to tie the game at four.
With the game still tied in the bottom of the tenth, Thomas Milone reached on a throwing error before Maris bunted him to second. After a pair of intentional walks, Sullivan lined a single to right to seal the 5-4 win.
Fernando Baez (2-0) went two shutout innings while striking out four in relief to earn the win.
In Game 2, starting pitcher Eduar Lopez spun seven shutout innings, allowing only three hits while fanning seven. His seven innings matched a career high.
Reece Karalus (3-0) worked a scoreless top of the eighth to keep the game scoreless in extra innings.
With the score at 0-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Milone doubled to the gap in right center to start the inning. After an infield single from David Olmedo-Barrera moved Milone to third, the Mets walked Alec Sole to load the bases with nobody out. After a line out, Fox stroked a hit to center to win the game for Charlotte.
The Stone Crabs will look to win the series with St. Lucie Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. Travis Ott (4-1, 3.04) makes the start for Charlotte against Michael Gibbons (0-2, 7.59) of the Mets. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
