Dragons Dominate, Score Eight Runs in Seventh Inning

Midland, Mich.– The Great Lakes Loons (59-32) (14-12) permitted the most runs in a single inning this season, as the Dayton Dragons (47-45) (14-12) scored eight runs in the seventh inning, winning 10-5 on a 75-degree cloudy Wednesday night at Dow Diamond.

Dayton down 4-2, scored eight runs delivered from four hits in the seventh. Jerming Rosario struck out six over the middle innings, he could not complete the seventh. A walk and a Jay Allen II double put two in scoring position to start. With one out, Austin Callahan sliced a double to left-center field to tie up the game at four.

Ruben Ibarra walked, which removed Rosario, as Christian Suarez entered. Austin Hendrick singled to deep center to load the bases. Justice Thompson walked on five pitches, giving Dayton a 5-4 advantage. A Tyler Callihan groundout scored another run, and an error at shortstop made it 7-4. Cade Hunter, who started the inning, singled scoring Thompson.

Jay Allen II, next-up struck out on three pitches, but the third pitch bounced away allowing Allen to reach. 19-year-old Edwin Arroyo, with the bases loaded, laced a 1-1 pitch to left field, bringing the score to 10-4. The Dragons had 13 batters make a plate appearance in the inning.

The Loons led 4-2 after six innings. Great Lakes plated four of their five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Four walks started the inning, all permitted by Chris McElvain. The fourth was a nine-pitch walk from *Alex Freeland, *he has walked three times in two games in the series, after being activated off the injured list to begin the week.

A sacrifice fly to right field from Yeiner Fernandez tied up the game at two.* Damon Keith*’s bloop single to right field, made it 4-2.

Dayton’s first two runs came off* Ronan Kopp* who punched out the side in the first but walked two in the second inning. Ruben Ibarra hit his second home run of the series, a solo shot 450 feet to commence the inning. Taylor Young plated the lone ninth-inning run, an RBI single. Young, with the hit, now has a seven-game hit streak.

The Loons look for their first win of the series, tomorrow Thursday, July 27th. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Thursday is a Thirsty Thursday™ presented by John P. O'Sullivan Distributing and Country Music Night brought to you by Applebee’s.
