The Somerset Patriots trampled the Binghamton Rumble Ponies by a score of 9-0 on Friday night in front of a season-high 8,076 fans at TD Bank Ballpark in the fourth of a six-game Double-A Subway Series.
Patriots pitchers struck out 10+ while Somerset batters registered 10+ hits for the second straight day.
Thursday marked Somerset’s 11th shutout of the season and second consecutive. Four of the 11 shutouts have come over the Patriots last seven games.
Over Somerset’s last 15 innings at the plate, they have scored 23 runs, while the Patriots pitching staff has not allowed a run over that span.
Patriots pitching has not allowed a run over their last 22.2 IP dating back to the 5th inning on Wednesday.

RHP Drew Thorpe (8 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 9 K, 0 BB) earned the win in his Double-A debut, hurling eight shutout innings with 9 K. After allowing a leadoff hit in the 1st on the second hit of the game, Thorpe went on to retire 20 straight Rumble Ponies, including 9 K. Friday marked the third time this season that Thorpe has gone 8+ scoreless IP, making him the only pitcher in MiLB to accomplish the feat. The Yankees No. 5 prospect finished the day with 147 strikeouts on the season, tops in all of MiLB.
C Ben Rice (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI) crushed a three-run homer in the 3rd inning for his 11th HR in 43 overall games between Low-A, High-A, and Double-A this season. In 18 Double-A games this season, Rice is slashing .329/.402/.699 with 7 HR and 25 RBI. Rice has multiple hits in four of his last five games and eight multi-hit games in 18 games with Somerset. Over the first four games of the six-game series vs. Binghamton, Rice is 9-for-17 with 2 HR, 9 RBI, and 7 R.
CF Elijah Dunham (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, SB, 2 R) launched a solo blast in the 7th inning for his 7th homer with Somerset and 13th overall this season. Seven of Dunham’s last nine hits have gone for extra bases. Over the first four games of the series, Dunham is 7-for-16 (.437) with 2 HR and 7 RBI.
