DUBON'S BLAST RINGS SOUNDS IN SKY SOX 10-6 VICTORY
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Sky Sox defeated the Sounds for a second straight night in high-number fashion Tuesday evening with a 16-hit, 10-run night over Nashville's six-run, nine hit performance. Mauricio Dubón highlighted the night offensively for the Sky Sox, extending his hit streak to 19 games and adding his fourth home run of the season in the late innings to seal the game two victory.
After three scoreless innings with three hits total in the ballgame, the Sounds found a rhythm offensively, plating two runs in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Anthony García poked a double down the right-field line to bring around Dustin Fowler, who walked. Number seven batter Slade Heathcott then followed with a single of his own to bring around Beau Taylor, who also walked, to make it a 2-0 Sounds advantage.
In Colorado Springs fifth, the offense picked up sparked by a leadoff walk by Tyler Saladino. After Saladino went on to steal second, Keon Broxton smacked a double in the left-center alley to bring around the first run of the game for the Sky Sox. Following Kyle Wren's infield single to put runners on the corners, Nate Orf knocked a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to tie the game at two apiece.
The Sounds came back to life in the sixth to break the tie and stretch out to a three-run lead. After two singles and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases, Sheldon Neuse sneaked a double straight down the third base line to plate two. Dustin Garneau followed with a sacrifice fly ball to bring in the third run.
In the bottom half, the Sky Sox kept pace adding three comeback runs to tie the game again. Christian Bethancourt sent his fourth home run of the season to the opposite field to get within one. After a Saladino walk to restart things and a wild pitch placed him into scoring position, Broxton singled to tie the game but was thrown out stretching a double. With two outs, Wren tripled to right field and the Sky Sox took the 6-5 lead after Orf powered a double to right.
The lead didn't stay for long as Nashville came back with a solo run in the seventh. After the Sounds loaded the bases with no outs on southpaw reliever Mike Zagurski, the lefty continued to battle and proceeded to strike out the next two batters to hold the lead. Right-hander Radhames Liz came in after and delivered a walk to the first batter faced to make it an even ball game at 6-6.
However, the relentless bats of the Sky Sox returned in the eighth inning. Saladino led off the frame with his first hit of the contest after three consecutive walks. After a groundout by Broxton to advance the runner, Wren smoked a single to the right side to break the tie and give the Sky Sox the 7-6 lead. Orf matched suit with a double, his sixth of the season, while Nottingham capped off the night with a three-run moonshot to deep centerfield, giving Colorado Springs the final 10-6 advantage.
The Sky Sox continue the four-game series against Nashville tomorrow morning with game three scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Security Service Field, which features another Math Day for schools across the local area. Gates open at 9:00 a.m. For all information on Sky Sox, follow along on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, or visit the team's website at www.skysox.com.
