Dust Devils and Emeralds Participate in Baseball Contest

The Tri-City Dust Devils (20-32 2H, 49-66) and Eugene Emeralds (33-19 2H, 71-44) played a regulation length baseball game Friday night at Gesa Stadium, with Eugene scoring 14 runs and Tri-City scoring two.

Each team batted and played defense nine times, as per the rules of baseball. The Emeralds scored in four different at-bats, scoring eight times in the 5th inning. The Dust Devils scored in two different at-bats on RBI groundouts, one by LF Steven Rivas and the other by 3B Christian Sepulveda.

The official scorer credited the win to Eugene starting pitcher Nick Swiney (4-4), and the loss to Tri-City starter John Swanda (3-1), again as required by the rules of scoring the game of baseball.

As scheduled the two teams will play another contest at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night. The Dust Devils have chosen right-hander Victor Mederos (0-1, 9.00 ERA) to be their starting pitcher. The Emeralds have selected left-hander Nick Zwack (6-1, 2.45 ERA) to do the same.

After the game a thrilling postgame fireworks show will take place thanks to IBEW Local 112. It’s also Faith Night at Gesa Stadium, with various local churches and religious organizations enjoying a night at the ballpark.

The game broadcast begins with the King Beverage Budweiser Pregame Show at 6:50 p.m. at dustdevilsbaseball.com and the MiLB First Pitch app.
