KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 13, 2017) - Max Duval threw a complete-game shutout as the Intimidators fell, 3-0 in a 7-inning game, on Sunday evening at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (20-30 Second Half, 59-59) managed one hit on the night, a fifth-inning single by Aaron Schnurbusch.
Duval (2-0) struck out nine batters while allowing just three Intimidators to reach base safely en route to earning the win. He gave up one hit, one walk, and hit one batter over 7.0 innings. Duval became the first pitcher to throw a complete-game 1-hitter against Kannapolis since August 16, 2010, when Savannah's John Church beat Kannapolis in the first game of a doubleheader.
Greensboro broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when Brian Miller singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, and raced around the bases on an Eric Gutierrez infield single for a 1-0 lead. The Hoppers added a pair of runs in the fourth as Jared Barnes walked and Micah Brown singled to lead off the inning. Following an Intimidators error that scored Barnes, Rony Cabrera cashed Brown with a sacrifice fly to put Greensboro ahead, 3-0.
Intimidators starter Blake Hickman (3-6) worked 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts while suffering the loss. Reliever Kevin Escorcia fanned two batters over 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings. Tyler Johnson faced the minimum in a scoreless sixth inning, and Ben Wright worked a clean seventh.
Kannapolis is off on Monday as the team busses to Lakewood, N.J., to open a 7-game road trip starting Tuesday. The Intimidators return home for the final home stand of the regular season August 22-27, and tickets are available by calling the F&M Bank Box Office at 704-932-3267, or by visiting IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
