PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (July 27, 2017) - The Stone Crabs got six early runs and Travis Ott struck out nine Blue Jays hitters over five shutout innings in a 7-1 win Thursday night at Charlotte Sports Park.
Ott's (4-1) nine strikeouts were the most in a single game by a Stone Crabs (49-52, 18-15) pitcher all season. He allowed only one hit over his five frames to earn the win.
Charlotte got the offense going immediately against Blue Jays (52-51, 18-16) rehabber Leonel Campos (0-1). With two outs in the bottom of the first, Ryan Boldt swatted his fourth home run of the season to give the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead.
Up by a run in the second, David Olmedo-Barrera singled on a comebacker before Angel Moreno walked. After a double steal moved the runners to second and third, Lucius Fox pulled a single to left to plate both runners and extend the lead to 3-0. Fox then advanced to second on a groundout before Daniel Robertson lined a single to left center to score Fox and make the score 4-0.
Still leading by four in the bottom of the third, Boldt was hit by a pitch from Dunedin lefty Tayler Saucedo. With two outs, Olmedo-Barrera and Moreno both delivered RBI doubles to left to push the Stone Crabs' lead to 6-0.
Charlotte reliever Reece Karalus allowed one run on three hits over four innings to finish off the win, the Stone Crabs fifth in their last six games.
