LANSING, MI (July 20, 2019) - Evan Edwards homered in his second straight game and the Clinton LumberKings came from behind to beat the Lansing Lugnuts 3-2 on Saturday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Clinton (20-8, 53-44) became the first team in the Midwest League's second half to reach the 20-win mark with their series opening triumph over Lansing (14-14, 46-51).
The Lugnuts scored their runs in bunches, tallying the game's first runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. They struck for three runs with the big hit belonging to Ryan Gold who homered to left center for his third big fly of the year.
Clinton went hitless through the first four innings until J.D. Osborne opened the inning with a double to left that would lead to the LumberKings first run of the night. Three batters later, Zach Scott snapped an 0-for-26 skid at the plate with an RBI single into right.
In the top of the eighth, Clinton completed the comeback with two runs to tie the game at three. Three straight hits opened the inning with Peyton Burdick chasing home the first run with an RBI single to center. Bubba Hollins plated the game's tying run with an RBI ground out to second.
Cre Finfrock (0-1) continued his relief work into the top of the 10th for Lansing. He set down the first two batters of the frame until Evan Edwards homered to center for a two-run clout, scoring the LumberKings free base runner assigned to second base (part of Minor League Baseball's extra inning rule).
The lead held up in the bottom of the 10th. Zach Wolf (4-1) allowed the free base runner to score but stranded runners at first and second when he struck out Jake Brodt to end the game.
