Eight Run Tenth Inning Carries Scrappers over Doubledays

Auburn, NY- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Auburn Doubledays played an instant classic on Thursday night at Falcon Park. The Scrappers and Doubledays played a back and forth game that saw eight lead changes. The Scrappers would eventually pull away with an eight run tenth inning which saw 12 come to the plate. In the end the Scrappers would top the Doubledays 15-7.
The Scrappers for the second straight night would jump out to an early lead in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the first inning the Doubledays would strike back for three runs with all the runs coming on two homeruns.
After the first inning both teams would trade runs and the lead over the next eight innings, leading to extra innings.
In the top of the tenth inning, the Scrappers took command for good. Mahoning Valley sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. The eventual winning run would come just two batters into the inning.
The offensive onslaught for the Scrappers included 15 runs and 24 hits. The Scrappers had six extra base hits (four doubles, one triple and a homerun).
In the win, Ernie Clement extended his hitting streak to 16 straight games and is now just one shy of the NYPL's longest streak of the season. With the win the Scrappers are also once again tied with State Island for the best record in the league.
The Scrappers will go for their 10th series win of the season on Friday night.
