El Lic. Gerardo Benavides, Ejecutivo del Año 2019 de la LMB

San Diego, California (lmb.com.mx) 9 de diciembre. - La Liga Mexicana de Beisbol felicita al Lic. Gerardo Benavides Pape, Presidente del Consejo de Administración del club Acereros de Monclova, por su designación como Ejecutivo del Año 2019, reconocimiento recibido en el marco de las Reuniones Invernales del beisbol organizado, celebradas en San Diego, California. El reconocimiento fue otorgado por Pat O´Conner, presidente de Minor League Baseball (MiLB) y Horacio de la Vega, presidente de la Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB).
Esta designación llega luego de conseguir, como propietario y presidente del Consejo de Administración de los Acereros de Monclova, el primer título en los 45 años de historia de esta franquicia. Conformó un roster que se mantuvo en los primeros lugares durante toda la temporada con el que vencieron en siete emotivos juegos a Leones de Yucatán en la más reciente Serie del Rey.
El Lic. Benavides Pape sostuvo que "es un reconocimiento a toda la gente que trabaja en Acereros, a la organización, a mi familia, a la ciudad que apoyó el proyecto y a los aficionados. Deja muchas cosas positivas, no solamente para los Acereros, también para la Liga Mexicana. Ojalá sigamos creciendo como lo estamos haciendo para fortalecer más a la Liga".
Para el propietario de la Furia Azul, "este campeonato es muy especial porque significa muchos años de trabajo, de estar esperando", y le pide a la afición "que siga confiando, seguiremos reforzando. Es un compromiso de tener un equipo competitivo, que represente a la gente de Monclova, que es trabajadora y honesta".
El Lic. Benavides llegó a la Liga Mexicana de Beisbol a mediados de la temporada 2014, como propietario del club Pericos de Puebla. Implantó en el equipo una mentalidad ganadora, y como ejecutivo impulsó la contratación de múltiples figuras de renombre internacional como Willy Taveras, Rubén Rivera, Miguel Tejada o Chad Gaudin; con la Novena Verde consiguió tres campeonatos de la Zona Sur y el título de Liga en 2016, campaña en la que obtuvo por primera vez el reconocimiento a Ejecutivo del Año.
En 2017 adquirió la franquicia de Acereros y de inmediato comenzó una profunda transformación en el equipo coahuilense, que no solo mejoró el aspecto deportivo. Desde su primera temporada al frente del equipo, el Estadio Monclova vendió más del 60% de su capacidad a fanáticos con abono anual y el porcentaje promedio de ocupación en su inmueble ha sido, año con año, el más alto en la LMB.
En cuanto a transmisiones, se logró el posicionamiento del Club en el estado de Coahuila y Sur de Texas por medio de Núcleo Radio Televisión y en 2019 se concretó un crecimiento por medio de CANAL 66 a Baja California y el sur de California; mientras que con TELEMAX se llegó al Estado de Sonora y sur de Arizona.
En plataformas digitales, Acereros ha llegado a más de 130,000 seguidores en Facebook, lo que representa más del 35% de la población de Monclova; a su vez se sumaron más de 300,000 aficionados en las diferentes cuentas oficiales, teniendo un aumento al triple de seguidores desde 2017. También en este rubro, Monclova fue el ganador en la categoría de Comunicación de los primeros Premios de Innovación de la LMB, entregados en 2018.
En el plano deportivo, los aficionados de Acereros disfrutaron del espectáculo ofrecido por múltiples estrellas del beisbol nacional e internacional que llegaron para vestir los colores de Monclova e impulsar de forma importante el crecimiento del nivel competitivo en el circuito.
Figuras como Erick Aybar, Chris Carter, Bruce Maxwell, Erick Young Jr., Alex Mejía, Juan Carlos Pérez, Delmon Young, André Rienzo, Francisco Peguero, Julio Borbón, Danny Espinosa, Franklin Morales, Fernando Salas, Francisco "Kid" Rodríguez y Al Alburquerque forman parte ya de la historia de la Furia Azul y de la LMB.
La Liga Mexicana de Beisbol felicita al Lic. Gerardo Benavides Pape por ser nombrado Ejecutivo del Año 2019, una distinción que no solo reconoce su labor al frente de Acereros, sino como un directivo comprometido con el crecimiento del beisbol mexicano en todas sus áreas.
