Chupacabras Secure Series Win With 7-4 Victory Over Margaritas 

Two Home Runs Help Round Rock to Win

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Chupacabras de Round Rock (39-29) secured the series win over the El Paso Margaritas (29-39) with a 7-4 victory at Dell Diamond on Saturday night. It is the club’s first time being 10 games over .500 since May 7 when they held a 21-11 record.

Chupacabras reliever RHP Ryan Tepera (1-0, 0.00) earned a win after tossing one scoreless inning that saw two strikeouts. Margaritas starter RHP Angel Sanchez (0-2, 5.50) walked away with the loss after allowing six runs, three of which were earned, off of four hits, including RF Elier Hernandez’ three-run home run. Round Rock RHP Marc Church grabbed a save with two shutout innings to close out the night.

Along the Train Tracks

  • El Paso saw the scoresheet after 2B Tim Lopes drew a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch to put the visitors up 1-0 in the first frame.
  • Round Rock saw it all in the second after an error, single and walk loaded the bases. LF Sandro Fabian was hit by a pitch, which tied the game before a fielder’s choice and error during C Miguel Ojeda’s plate appearance saw 1B Blaine Crim and 3B Yoshi Tsutsugo score to give the Chupacabras a 3-1 advantage.
  • Round Rock put three more runs on the board in the third after a walk drawn by 2B Davis Wendzel and single from DH Brad Miller set RF Elier Hernandez up for a 394-foot bomb, good for the 6-1 lead.
  • The Margaritas had a three-run home run of their own to pull within two in the sixth inning when 3B Janzen Witte knocked in RF Jose Azocar and C Brett Sullivan after they had singled and doubled, respectively.
  • Wendzel smacked a solo shot to center to keep Round Rock up 7-4 in the seventh inning.

  • Chupacabras C Miguel Ojeda made his Triple-A debut with Round Rock on Saturday and went 0-for-3 with one RBI and two strikeouts.
  • Texas Rangers INF Brad Miller continued his rehab assignment as the designated hitter for Round Rock and went 1-for-4 with one run scored and two strikeouts.
  • Chupacabras RF Elier Hernandez extended his Pacific Coast League leading hit streak to 21 games in style with a three-run home run in the third inning. His 21-game streak is tied for the second-longest streak in club history and is the most since Julio Borbon’s 21-game hitting streak spanning May 12 to June 12 in 2012.
