The Eugene Emeralds unveiled a player-exclusive jersey design for their upcoming July 3rd game vs. the Everett Aquasox. This design is in commemoration of the 4th of July as well as the team's initiative to embrace and celebrate the Latino community in Eugene, which is part of a larger effort of the MiLB's "Copa de la Diversion" campaign. The new look combines the symbolism and story of the Latino community and the DREAMERS with the freedom and liberty represented with the 4th of July.
"The goal of this season-long project was to create a more inclusive environment at PK Park, and the 3rd of July is simply another fantastic evening to strengthen the cause," said Allan Benavides, General Manager for the Emeralds. "We hope that fans will continue to embrace Los Monarcas de Eugene and appreciate the touching symbolism behind the uniforms our players will wear for the night."
The Emeralds will transform to their alter-image, Los Monarcas de Eugene for the third time as part of six Monarcas Nights throughout the season. The jerseys for the 3rd of July contain multiple odes to the local Latino community, creating a truly unique piece for the season-long celebration. The Statue of Liberty fills the right side of the jersey, along with the famous last lines of the New Colossus sonnet. The Aztec Ollin symbol (pronounced all-in) dons the back of the jersey underneath the player number, representing the heart and commitment of the team. Tying everything together are the words "Todos Somos Monarcas," meaning "We are all Monarchs" and symbolizing unity, which will be on the top back side of the jersey. Along with the special jerseys, the players and coaches will also be wearing Stars and Stripes caps for the evening, complete with red, white, and blue.
The Monarcas de Eugene and the Eugene Emeralds are proud to celebrate inclusion and diversity in the Eugene community. These player-worn uniforms will be available for auction during the game, through the end of the 6th inning. Winners will be able to go on the field after the game to receive the jerseys from the players. All proceeds of the auction will go towards Centro Latino Americano, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the empowerment of the Latino community of Lane County.
