San Antonio -The San Antonio Missions are excited to announce that right-hander Enyel De Los Santos was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for August 7-13.
In his lone start of the week on August 12 vs. Tulsa, De Los Santos came within five outs of the club's second no-hitter of the season as San Antonio evened its series with a 3-1 win. Drillers' third baseman Erick Mejia broke up the no-hitter with a one-out ground rule double to right. De Los Santos allowed just one run on one hit and two walks, while striking out seven over a career-high, tying eight innings.
For the week, De Los Santos led the Texas League in WHIP (0.38) and finished second in OPP AVG (.043).
After taking time to adjust to the Double-A level, De Los Santos has become one of the top hurlers in the Texas League. In 13 games (11 starts) since June 1, the 21-year-old is 7-1 with a 2.88 ERA and a K:BB of 78:22 over 78 innings. During that stretch, De Los Santos is second in the league in both strikeouts and WHIP (1.06), while ranking third in both wins and OPP AVG (.223).
De Los Santos was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in July of 2014. San Diego acquired Enyel along with former Mission infielder Nelson Ward in exchange for RHP Joaquin Benoit in November of 2015.
In 23 games (21 starts) this season for the Missions, De Los Santos is 9-4 with a 3.85 ERA. This is the second Pitcher of the Week honor this season for De Los Santos, who earned the league's first award in 2017 (April 6-16).
De Los Santos is currently the No. 13 prospect in the San Diego system according to MLB.com.
San Antonio begins a six-game road trip Tuesday with the first of three against Springfield. First pitch from Hammons Field is slated for 6:30 PM.
