The Reno Aces hosted a Saint Mary's "Home Run for Life" ceremony, featuring Erik Holland, a stroke survivor, on Friday, May 12 when the Aces took on the New Orleans Baby Cakes at Greater Nevada Field.
Holland, a local artist, suffered a stroke while he was on his way to paint. He was immediately taken by ambulance to Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, where he was hospitalized for five days and experienced three additional strokes. Today, Holland is thriving, and says he owes his life to Dr. Joshua Kreiss of Saint Mary's Center for Neurovascular and Stroke Care, who provided treatment during his time in the hospital.
With May as National Stroke Awareness month, Holland rounded the bases commemorating his "Home Run for Life" in the middle of the second inning Friday the 12th. The Reno Aces and New Orleans Baby Cakes players and staff both lined up along each base line to greet Holland as he made his way toward home plate while his story of adversity and triumph was publicly announced to the stadium crowd.
