Summary
The Akron RubberDucks outlasted the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-1 in a 13-inning battle Friday night at Canal Park via an Ernie Clement walk-off single for the club's fourth straight victory.
Turning Point
In the 13th, Alexis Pantoja started the inning by bunting over Tyler Krieger , who began as the automatic runner on second. Ernie Clement then played the hero for Akron, sending the RubberDucks home as winners with a walk-off RBI single to left field.
Mound Presence
Southpaw Tanner Tully got the ball for Akron and threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one Richmond run. He eased through the first three innings, with the only baserunner coming in the second. The Flying Squirrels got their only run in the fourth when a leadoff double came around to score on a Jonah Arenado RBI single. Tully pitched into the seventh where he allowed two singles, but Rob Nelson came on to get to Akron out of the jam. Nelson (1 2/3 innings), Nick Sandlin (2), and Argenis Angulo (3) continued to stifle the Squirrels well into extras, setting the stage for the Clement walk-off.
Duck Tales
The Akron offense struggled to get things in motion until the fifth, when two walks and an Ernie Clement base knock loaded the bases. Nellie Rodríguez then drove in the RubberDucks' first run after drawing a walk after a ten-pitch battle with two outs. The bottom of the ninth began with a Wilson Garcia leadoff double, but pinch-runner Tyler Friis was thrown out at home on a Connor Marabell single, and the game was sent to extras. Akron could get nothing going in the extra frames until the Clement walk-off in the 13th.
