In what can only be described as an old-fashioned slugfest, Ezequiel Duran continued his scorching AFL campaign. The No. 7 Rangers prospect fell a homer shy of the cycle and drove in two runs while increasing his average to .478 in 23 Fall League at-bats. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Duran tallied his third consecutive three-hit game and fourth straight multihit effort after going hitless in his first two games. The 22-year-old is 11-for-18 with eight extra-base hits, eight RBIs and just two strikeouts in his last four contests.
Duran wasn't alone when it comes to noteworthy offensive performances. Michael Siani doubled and finished with four hits, three RBIs and his sixth stolen base. The 11th-ranked Reds prospect entered the tilt 3-for-21 in his first seven games, albeit with six walks. Royals outfield prospect Seuly Matias blasted a 462-foot homer and drove in four runs while Andres Chaparro (Yankees) went 4-for-4 with a homer, a double and six RBIs. Gabriel Moreno (Blue Jays) reached base five times and tallied four hits for Mesa. MLB Pipeline's No. 32 overall prospect doubled, singled three times, scored three runs and drove in a pair. JJ Bleday (MLB 71) drove in two runs on three hits, including his first Fall League home run. Miami's outfield prospect is enjoying a strong campaign, batting .367 with a 1.058 OPS and eight RBIs. In a day full of offensive exploits, the Desert Dogs' Zack Thompson was one of the few pitchers to enjoy a successful outing. The No. 8 Cardinals prospect struck out a pair and walked two over two hitless innings, ultimately picking up the victory in relief. Thompson is unscored upon in four outings and has allowed just two hits while striking out 13 in eight innings. It's a welcome sight after the 23-year-old struggled to a 7.06 ERA in 22 appearances, including 19 starts, in the regular season. Juan Yepez (STL 27) slugged his third home run and drove in three runs while falling a triple shy of the cycle. The 23-year-old leads the AFL with 14 RBIs. Jeter Downs belted a grand slam, his league-best fifth long ball. The fifth-ranked Red Sox prospect sports a .333 average, a 1.565 OPS and 13 RBIs in AFL play. Fellow Red Sox prospect Triston Casas (MLB 18) and Richard Palacios (CLE 14) both collected two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Scorpions. More »
