Tatis Jr. shines in Padres On Deck Game

Fernando Tatis Jr. started his breakout season in the Midwest League. He ended it in San Diego.
MLB.com's No. 51 overall prospect picked up two hits and drove in a run Saturday night in a 5-2 victory over the Rangers in the Padres' second annual On Deck Game at Petco Park.

Tatis delivered an RBI single and scored on a triple by Padres No. 11 prospectJorge Oña in a three-run first inning. He later doubled, while Ona singled home No. 17 prospect Jeisson Rosario in the third to open a 4-1 lead.
"It gives you a vision of the future, hopefully," Padres assistant scouting director Chris Kemp told The San Diego Union-Tribune. "And to see these guys in full uniform in this stadium is exciting and motivating for me as a scout to keep wanting to work hard and find more guys."
Tatis spent most of the season with Class A Fort Wayne, where he batted .281/.390/.520 with a team-record 21 homers, 69 RBIs, 29 stolen bases and 78 runs scored in 117 games. The 18-year-old from the Dominican Republic was the first teenager to post a 20/20 season in the Midwest League since Clinton's Nick Franklin in 2010.
In August, the Padres aggressively promoted the son of former Major Leaguer Fernando Tatis to Double-A San Antonio, where he overcame a slow start to post a .255/.281/.327 slash line with a homer, six RBIs and three steals in 14 games. He went on to hit .350 with a homer, five runs scored and two RBIs in five Texas League playoff games.
No. 15 prospect Jacob Nix and No. 7 prospect Michel Baez both gave up a run on four hits with four strikeouts in three innings. Fifth-ranked prospect Adrian Morejon fanned four and allowed one hit in two scoreless frames.
